FAQ

What Passaic County drivers want to know before booking a tow

People mostly want to know how long the drive up from Linden takes, whether Clifton and West Milford pay the same, what happens on the Parkway and I-80, and who picks the drop-off; in short, $149 by phone or $129 online, miles quoted on the call.

Are you actually located in Passaic County?

No. Our yard is in Linden, in Union County. We send trucks north into Passaic County every day, and the dispatcher on (908) 666-3168 tells you the real drive time rather than pretending we are around the corner.

How long does it take a truck to get to Clifton?

About 38 to 40 minutes from the yard, by the Parkway or Route 21. If one of our trucks is already working north of Newark, the wait can be shorter, and you are told which.

What about Paterson, is it much longer?

Not much. Downtown Paterson is about 40 minutes from Linden. The Riverside and Eastside sections are close to the same.

Can you get to Wayne or Little Falls quickly?

Figure on 40 to 45 minutes. Wayne near the Route 23 and 46 interchange is at the longer end of that, Little Falls near the Essex line a bit shorter.

Do you tow in West Milford and Ringwood?

Yes, but it is an hour or more from our yard, so we handle it mainly as scheduled work. For a roadside emergency up there, a local garage will often reach you first, and the dispatcher will say so honestly.

Does the booking fee go up because I am far from Linden?

No. It is $149 by phone or $129 if you book online, in every Passaic County town. The mileage is measured from your car to its destination and quoted on the call.

I broke down on the Parkway near the Clifton exits. What now?

On the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the shoulder itself is served by the Turnpike Authority's authorized garages; book with us anyway, and once the authorized truck has the car off the highway we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose, at the same flat quoted price.

Will you come out to I-80 near Paterson or Totowa?

Yes, I-80 is a road our trucks work directly. Tell the dispatcher your direction and the last exit you passed, then wait behind the barrier until the driver calls.

My car quit on Route 3 by Clifton Commons. Can you help?

Yes. Say whether you are eastbound or westbound and which store or ramp is closest. The truck comes in on the right side, and the tow goes to the shop you name.

Can you tow from the Willowbrook Mall parking lot?

Yes. Give the store entrance or the lot section. If the car only needs a jump or a lockout, that is one flat price and no tow at all.

My kid's car died at William Paterson University. What do we say?

The lot name or the building it is next to, and what the car is doing. A jump is one flat price; if it needs to go to a shop, the mileage is quoted first.

Can I have my car taken to a mechanic outside Passaic County?

Yes. The car goes wherever you say, whether that is a shop in Bergen, Essex or Morris County or your own driveway. The mileage for the trip is part of the quote.

Is it cheaper to book the tow in advance?

The booking fee is the same, but booking online takes it to $129. For planned moves in the highland towns, booking ahead also gets you a fixed window.

Do you tow box trucks from the Route 46 industrial areas?

Yes. Medium and heavy-duty units handle box trucks, buses and tractors, priced on the call. Businesses in Totowa, Clifton and Paterson can open an account with one monthly invoice.

Do you charge more at night or on a holiday?

No. The fee and the mileage are the same at 2 a.m. on New Year's Day as on a Tuesday afternoon. There is no fuel surcharge.

Is there any storage fee?

None. We do not run a storage lot. Every tow ends at the shop, dealer or home you choose.

My battery died on a Passaic side street. Do I need a tow?

Probably not. A jump start is one flat price with no mileage. If the battery will not hold a charge, the driver can tow the car on the same visit.

Do you tow electric cars and all-wheel-drive SUVs?

Yes, on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Mention the drivetrain on the call so the right truck is sent.

What happens after a crash on Route 46 in Wayne?

When police clear the scene, the driver photographs the car, loads it and takes it to the body shop you pick. You get an itemized receipt for the insurer.

What forms of payment do you take?

Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay and cash. Fleets and shops can be set up on net terms with one monthly invoice.

Do I need to be a member of anything?

No. Anyone can call. If you have a roadside plan, pay us and send them the itemized receipt to be reimbursed.

Who should I call if 40 minutes is too long to wait?

Tell the dispatcher that. We will not hold you on a job we cannot reach in time, and if a nearby garage makes more sense for a live-lane emergency, you will hear it from us first.

Still not sure? Ask the dispatcher. It costs nothing.
